LESLIE LUGO BIOGRAPHY 
Bilingual Recording Artist | Grammy & Latin Grammy-Nominated Vocalist | Grammy-Winning Songwriter

 

Internationally recognized for her powerful voice, dynamic performances, and cross-cultural versatility, Leslie Lugo is a bilingual recording artist whose career spans multiple genres, languages, and platforms. A six-time Grammy/Latin Grammy-nominated vocalist and a Grammy-winning songwriter, Leslie has made an indelible impact on the Latin and American music industries through her award-winning collaborations and solo works.

 

Her vocal talents have been featured in major Hollywood productions, including Robert Rodriguez’s Machete (Twentieth Century Fox) and his 2015 television series From Dusk Till Dawn. Her original song “El Nirichin,” from her debut CD, was prominently featured in the film Divine Access by The Traveling Picture Show Company.

 

A voting member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS aka The Grammys) and a BMI-affiliated songwriter, Leslie founded her own publishing company, LuGOLD Music, where her compositions have been recorded and performed by numerous acclaimed artists. In 1999, her songwriter contribution to Flaco Jiménez’s Grammy-winning album Said and Done earned her recognition from the prestigious Grammy Awards. She also co-wrote a song for Jiménez featured in the Woody Allen film Picking Up the Pieces.

 

Based in Houston, The Leslie Lugo Band is one of Texas’s premier live acts, known for its exceptional versatility and wide repertoire. Performing an eclectic blend of English and Spanish music—including Top 40, Pop, Rock, Country, R&B, Jazz, Salsa, Merengue, Cumbia, Bachata, Tejano, Mariachi, and more—Leslie and her band are frequent headliners at high-profile festivals, national conventions, corporate galas, and private events.

 

In addition to fronting her band, Leslie performs traditional Mariachi shows alongside critically acclaimed ensembles, paying tribute to Mexico’s musical heritage. 

 

She also presents the highly acclaimed Intimately Adele - The New Adele Tribute Experience Show —a soulful and powerful homage to Adele’s most beloved hits. The show has garnered rave reviews, including this praise from Bernhardt Winery: “Leslie Lugo, you were exceptional! Your voice echoed through the crowd, giving goosebumps of actual soul-fire talent… it was truly unique!”

 

As a seasoned studio musician with an abundance of recording credits, Leslie has worked with some of industry’s leading artists/musicians. To date, her most successful vocalist collaborations have garnered three American Grammy & three Latin Grammy nominations and a Grammy Award win as songwriter. Some of her most noteworthy recordings include: The chart-topping HIT Duet “Caen Porque Caen” with Latin Grammy winner Joe Posada off his CD “Amor Y Fuego” garnering a 2006 Best Tejano Album Latin Grammy nomination and Tejano Music Awards Vocal Duo off the Year nomination. She recorded on Tejano Super Star Jay Perez’s “All of Me” CD nominated Best Tejano Album at the 49th Grammy Awards and on Tejano Legend David Marez’s CD “Corazon De Oro” 2007 Best Tejano Album nominated for a 2007 Grammy and a 2007 Latin Grammy. In 2009, Leslie reunited with Joe Posada recording the HIT Duet “Si Cocinas Como Caminas” off his CD “Point of View”. The CD was nominated Best Tejano Album at both 2009 Grammys and 2010 Latin Grammys and nominated Vocal Duo of the Year at the 2010 Tejano Music Awards. She recorded the HIT Duet “Eclipse Total” with David Marez off his CD “Eclipse Total”. The CD was awarded 2010 CD Project of the Year by the Tejano Academy and scored a Tejano Music Awards nomination for Vocal Duo of the Year.

 

Her latest highly anticipated 19 song CD “Éxitos Del Ayer” released on her LuGold Records Label was produced by 16-time Grammy winning producer Gilbert Velasquez. The tribute album honors great World-renowned Latin composers featuring beautiful timeless classics in English & Spanish. Also included are two originals written by Leslie Lugo: “Cuando Fue Tu Querer” and bonus track “Te Lo Pido a salsa collaboration with two-time Grammy winner, Marlow Rosado. 

 

Leslie’s debut Tejano CD “Joe Posada Presents Leslie Lugo” produced by 16-time Grammy winning producer Gilbert Velasquez was unveiled at the 2007 Las Vegas National Tejano Music Convention. Leslie’s HIT single, “Que Vas Hacer” charted top honors throughout the U.S. and Mexico, positioning it as one of the top songs of 2007. With the release of her breakthrough Tejano album, Leslie was embraced by music fans and recognized by industry professionals with music award nominations: Tejano Music Awards 2010 Female Vocalist of the Year, the coveted Univision TV Premios A La Música Latina Awards 2008 Mejor Vocalista Femenina (Best Female Vocalist) and 2008 Revelación Del Año (Best New Artist of the Year), Tejano Music Awards 2008 Female Vocalist of the Year, and 2008 Most Promising Band of the Year. The Academy of Tejano Music Awards also honored Leslie with a nomination as 2007 Female Vocalist of the Year.

 

Born in the multi-cultural city of San Antonio, Texas, Leslie began her musical career at a very early age. By age sixteen, Leslie was Lead Vocalist for a popular South Texas 17-piece orchestra and by seventeen; she was the youngest performer to represent Texas in the National OTI, one of the largest most prestigious international song festivals in the world. Forming her own Leslie Lugo Band while still a teenager, her early commitment to embracing her Mexican American heritage and performing bilingually set the tone for a lifelong, genre-crossing career.

 

Highlights of some high-profile Performances include

  • Performing at the largest convention in San Antonio history, Leslie took the spotlight for an inspiring a Capella bilingual performance of the spiritual hymn “Amazing Grace” at the 75th Alcoholics Anonymous International Convention. Her powerful emotional performance before a packed Alamodome brought the estimated 65,000 from 98 countries to their feet with resounding applause. Leslie’s memorable performance was captured in a Documentary tracing the history of AA from its founding to present day. 
  • The 2012 Republican National Convention in Tampa, Florida, where Leslie had the distinct honor of performing “The National Anthem”. Ann Romney, wife of Republican candidate for President Mitt Romney, was the keynote speaker with top government officials, dignitaries and world media in attendance. 
  • Celebrating Latino Heritage at the Republican National Reception, she opened for “Journey”, one of the most popular American Rock bands of all time. 
  • Leslie was one of the headliners at the 2014 Lucrazon Global Celebration in Los Angeles with former Presidential candidate Mitt Romney, former President of Mexico Vicente Fox and former Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez as honorable guest speakers. 
  • She was the featured vocalist performing with Filmmaker Robert Rodriguez’s Band “Chingon” on the premier of “EL REY” Cable Television Network launched in 2014. 
  • As lead background vocalist for International Super Star Cristian Castro, Leslie toured extensively for concert appearances across North and South America.

Penney, Budweiser, Folgers, Sears, CoffeeMate, SunnyDelight, Long John Silver, Bounty, Taco Cabana, The Roomstore, among many others. These bilingual commercials were recorded throughout her career in all styles/genres of music. Leslie’s works also include character voices and audiobook narrations such as: The sci-fi novel “Piercing The Fold” and others.
